We will begin the year with a short look at Careers in Art.

From there we will segue ( segue: to make a transition from one thing to another smoothly and without interruption) into graphic design. With industrialization came the necessity to develop fonts, typefaces, and typography (typography: the style, arrangement, or appearance of printed letters on a page). this was one of the first design challenges commercial artists faced on this planet. Without the written word being able to accompany the visual art in a complementary way, the message would not be unified, interpreted correctly, or pleasing to the eye.

Fonts for Peace Project
Instructions for the creating your own font:
1. The best way to create an original font is to look at other fonts and find ones you like.
2. Next, you will need to sketch out your font. Keep in mind the fonts that inspired you as well as the mood and feel. You will need to draw out the upper case alphabet A-Z or both upper and lower. You may use graph paper.
3. Name your font, write it on the sketch with your name.
4. You will need to use your font to draw the word Peace or PEACE.
5. Lastly, you will need to go over your font letters and font name with a thin Sharpie.
After all work is submitted, we will decorate a sculpture with our letters:
6. Copies will be made, then color may be added.
7. Cut out your letters.
8. Glue your letters to the sculpture for UNITY WEEK.
